Apocalypse Hoarder: I Have Billions in Supplies
Chapter 78 - 76: Dabai’s Healing Power
Jiang Si’s refusal would cause the tiger to develop a severe aversion to humans. Besides, it wasn’t as if capturing another mutated animal for research would be a difficult task for them.
Kuang Jiaying chose to give up. "Alright," he said to Jiang Si. "Since you’re unwilling, Miss Jiang, you can go."
He could see that her anger toward him had reached its breaking point.
Jiang Si scoffed, then turned and climbed into the helicopter. Big White immediately pressed close, giving her several slobbery licks, overjoyed that she was unharmed.
Jiang Si patted its big, soft face and pressed her forehead against its. "Don’t worry," she said. "I’m getting you out of here right now."
The helicopter slowly took off. The three military helicopters circling overhead made way at a wave from Kuang Jiaying.
As she flew into the sky and through the clouds, putting more and more distance between them, Jiang Si finally let out a heavy sigh of relief. Kuang Jiaying had kept his promise.
Jiang Linhai sat down in the co-pilot’s seat again and began carefully studying how to operate the helicopter. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
He was smart and a quick study, but unfortunately, he had no opportunity for hands-on practice for now.
Jiang Si also regretted not having stored a few more helicopters in her space when they were at the airport.
But the situation had been critical, with no time to spare. It was just wishful thinking. Besides, the remaining capacity in her space wasn’t large to begin with.
Once in the air, no one dared to relax. They had encountered ferocious Vultures before.
Lu Zhifeng kept his gun raised, never daring to lower it. They even ate in shifts.
The helicopter flew steadily north.
Jiang Si didn’t know if this Northern Base was the same one from her previous life.
She had no intention of going there regardless, so she asked Lu Zhifeng for his plans.
Lu Zhifeng, who already saw them as a small group, said tactfully, "As long as no one thinks my daughter and I are a burden, we’ll go wherever you all go."
Humans were a complex species. As strangers, they might kill each other, but as friends and teammates, they would give their lives for one another and trust each other implicitly.
Everyone had accepted Lu Zhifeng and Niu Niu. Since the two didn’t want to leave, the group certainly wouldn’t kick them out.
But at the thought of Qin Shen—his whereabouts unknown, his survival uncertain—a wave of deep regret washed over her.
The helicopter flew on, and after five long hours, Jiang Si finally saw an electronic map of the Pacific Ocean on the display screen.
At the same time, the helicopter began picking up some radio signals. Perhaps someone had managed to restore some communication equipment, or maybe the Northern Base was built somewhere nearby.
Areas near the coast weren’t very stable; strong earthquakes were followed by tsunamis.
Jiang Si planned to cross the Pacific Ocean in one go and reach the West Coast of the North Country before deciding on their next move.
KRABOOM—
The blood-red sky suddenly filled with thunder and lightning. Sheets of flashing purple electricity stretched across it, looking as if they would tear the very cosmos apart.
The helicopter Jiang Si was piloting was an easy target for a lightning strike. They had to find a place for an emergency landing.
Just as she’d feared.
KRABOOM—
Another sky-rending crash, and an unavoidable bolt of lightning struck the helicopter’s right wing.
As the helicopter began to plummet, Jiang Si fought to raise the nose and adjust its course, shouting to the others, "Everyone, hold on tight!"
It was too late to bail out, nor were the conditions stable enough for anyone to make the jump.
For everyone’s sake, Jiang Si had to make a desperate gamble.
If she succeeded, they would all live.
’If I fail, well, these past few days have been a gift. In this life, for our whole family to die together... that’s a kind of happiness in itself.’
The helicopter shot several hundred meters into the air at an incredible speed, dodged the oncoming bolts of lightning, and then spiraled into a steep descent toward a canyon.
Screams filled the helicopter. As Jiang Si watched the ground rush toward them, beads of sweat broke out on her forehead.
Fortunately, her excellent piloting skills saved everyone’s lives once again at that critical moment.
The helicopter scraped along the ground, dragging for several hundred meters before striking a rock with a BANG. The immense recoil sent a violent shudder through the airframe.
The impact should have been fatal for Jiang Si in the pilot’s seat, but at the critical moment, Big White sprang into action, bit through her safety harness, and shielded her tightly beneath its massive body.
Amidst the thick, swirling smoke, Jiang Si crawled out from under Big White. She was completely unharmed, but the others had all suffered injuries to varying degrees.
The most seriously injured among them was Jiang Linhai, whose concern for Jiang Si had left him vulnerable during the crash.
A metal bar had pierced his stomach. The sight of the bright red blood made Jiang Si’s mind go blank.
Shen Baoying’s tearful cry, "Lin Hai, you have to hold on!" snapped Jiang Si back from her horrified stupor.
Without a second thought, she moved to pull a medical kit and surgical tools from her space, but Big White suddenly approached and pressed its head to Jiang Linhai’s stomach.
Immediately after, in the blink of an eye, a dazzling brilliance emanated from Big White’s forehead. A second later, the wound on Jiang Linhai’s stomach—who was still groaning in agony—began to heal at a rate visible to the naked eye.
Everyone’s eyes went wide, their faces filled with disbelief.
Jiang Si was equally astonished. ’Big White is actually a Healing Beast with a superpower!’
’I’ve really struck gold.’
At the same time, a memory surfaced for Jiang Chengwu.
He and Zhang Qingfang had fallen into a ravine. He remembered distinctly feeling a gaping hole punched through his stomach. Yet, when Big White rescued him, he had only suffered from two broken legs. Now it was clear: Big White must have healed his fatal wound back then.
Shen Baoying excitedly patted Jiang Linhai’s face. "Lin Hai, how do you feel?"
Jiang Linhai was about to say "Not great," when he felt a lightness in his stomach, as if nothing had happened at all. He opened his eyes and was stunned.
His wound was gone.
The pain was gone, too.
He began to wonder if the whole thing had been a dream.
Jiang Linhai shook his head and said happily, "I’m fine. What about the rest of you?"
The words had barely left his mouth when Big White collapsed heavily onto him with a loud THUMP, nearly crushing the wind out of him.
Big White’s sudden collapse was definitely not a good sign.
Jiang Chengwu reasoned, "When Big White heals someone, it must be like those Immortal Cultivators you see on TV. It consumes its own life force, trading life for life. It’s not a power to be used lightly."
Jiang Si thought so too. She knelt and hugged Big White. The tiger weakly fluttered its eyes open, stretched out a paw, and pulled Jiang Si into its embrace.
Perhaps holding Jiang Si close allowed the Superpower Stone inside her to soothe it.
Jiang Si hugged it willingly and said to the others, "Everyone, stay on guard. Once Big White has recovered a little, we’ll figure out how to get moving again."
"Okay."
The group set up tents and lit a bonfire near the wrecked helicopter.
’Big White, with its healing ability and love for cuddles, is now my most precious treasure.’
Aside from when she had to use the restroom—at which point she would poke Big White to be let out of its embrace—Jiang Si quietly remained by its side.
Late in the night, when everyone except for Lu Zhifeng on watch was asleep...
Big White suddenly stirred. Jiang Si opened her eyes just as the tiger shook her off. She landed on the cool ground, still a bit dazed. "Big White, where are you going?"
