Chapter 477: Heavy Rain

The stones inside the cave were uneven, so Yin Yang found some wild grass to lay on top, and sleeping on it was quite soft.

The wild grass that Yin Yang arranged wasn’t chosen randomly; many of them were insect-repellent, and lying on them, one could smell a faint fragrance.

"You know about herbs too?" Xu Mumu asked curiously. The more she learned about Yin Yang, the more she found him to be really knowledgeable, knowing something about everything.

"I learned a bit," Yin Yang nodded. What he learned the most was about poisons, the things that harm people.

"What did you learn in your childhood?" Xu Mumu asked curiously.

"A lot, and quite varied," For him, those past memories weren’t pleasant, and now he didn’t even bother to think about them.

He was still very grateful to his grandpa; if not for being forced to learn so much, he might not have survived so smoothly until now.

"If we have kids in the future, you won’t force them to learn so much, will you?" Xu Mumu leaned against Yin Yang’s arms, hearing the gloom in his voice, then asked.

"I won’t, but what needs to be taught must still be taught. At least they’re the heirs of the Yin Family; they can’t have a naive and sweet nature," Yin Yang said with a smile.

"Alright," Xu Mumu nodded, enjoying so much naturally requires some contribution. The Yin Family business is so vast that inheriting it indeed requires learning a lot.

"What if our children don’t like it?" Xu Mumu suddenly paused, then asked Yin Yang. Actually, she didn’t like forcing children to learn anything.

"That’s simple, we’ll just have more kids. There’ll always be a suitable one, and it’s not like we can’t afford them," Yin Yang said with a smile.

"Have more kids, it would drive you crazy," Xu Mumu rolled her eyes, feeling that having kids wasn’t something he had to go through, so he could afford to talk lightly.

Thinking about her mother and second aunt when they were giving birth, she watched them, and the pain was apparent. Especially the second aunt, thinking about it still scared her a little.

"No worries, if it happens, we can just hire more caretakers," Yin Yang said with a smile. He was actually looking forward to it; having more kids would surely be lively.

Currently, with the policy of family planning, having more kids incurs a fine.

But he wasn’t short of money; he could afford the fine, so having more kids wasn’t an issue.

Xu Mumu couldn’t be bothered with him and turned over to go to sleep.

In the middle of the night, Xu Mumu suddenly heard some noises and woke up immediately. Sleeping outside was never as secure as at home.

Just as Xu Mumu woke up, Yin Yang also woke up and took out a flashlight he kept by him to check around.

Looking at the two snakes on the cave stones, were these snakes planning to enter the cave?

"Should we chase them away or just kill them?" Xu Mumu asked Yin Yang, weighing the dagger in her hand.

"Chase them away," Yin Yang frowned, not wanting to create a bloody smell in the cave, which would disrupt their sleep.

Xu Mumu nodded, picked up two sticks, quickly acted, coiled the two snakes onto the sticks, and then tossed them far outside.

"Hope they have the sense not to come over again," Xu Mumu yawned, feeling a bit tired. Dealing with two snakes was really easy for her; she was quite strong, and the sticks were thrown far away, so the snakes wouldn’t come back for now.

"They shouldn’t now, it’s a bit stuffy outside, and it’s probably going to rain," Yin Yang fanned himself, feeling the weather outside.

"Whatever, time to sleep. Even if it rains, we won’t get wet," Xu Mumu said calmly.

Yin Yang nodded, and the two of them went back to sleep.

The lower half of the cave entrance was blocked by Xu Mumu with stones; after a while, a clap of thunder surprised Xu Mumu awake again. Outside, it had already started to drizzle.

"It really started raining," Xu Mumu rubbed her eyes. It was almost six o’clock and the day was beginning to break.

Since she couldn’t sleep anymore, Xu Mumu got up directly, and Yin Yang followed her.

"I’ll go out and gather some firewood," Yin Yang saw that the rain was still light, and they hadn’t collected much last night.

"Okay, be careful. I’ll see if there’s any food around and bring some back," Xu Mumu nodded, unsure how long this rain would last, so it was better to prepare more food.

"Come back soon," Yin Yang sighed slightly, still letting Xu Mumu go.

Xu Mumu quickly weaved through the forest, caught a couple of pheasants, and grabbed a nest of fat rabbits. Along the way, she encountered a big python, which she decided not to deal with as she didn’t want to eat snake meat.

When Xu Mumu returned to the cave, there was already plenty of firewood, enough for two or three days, along with some wild fruits. Besides some wild pears, there were also two pomegranates and a few walnuts.

"Your harvest is pretty good," Xu Mumu said with a touch of admiration.

The clay pot was placed at the cave entrance by Yin Yang to collect rainwater, and the fire inside the cave was already burning, fueled by the wood they collected yesterday. They were also drying today’s slightly damp wood since it wouldn’t burn well otherwise.

"Not bad indeed. How far did you go? You brought back quite a lot of prey," Yin Yang chuckled, tossing a couple of larger logs into the fire to keep it burning longer.

"Didn’t go too far; these little animals are just a bit dumb," Xu Mumu said very calmly. The pheasants, although they flew, were not as fast as she could run, practically waiting to be caught.

Yin Yang chuckled. Outside, the rain got heavier, and the clay pot was already full of water, so it was placed over the fire to boil.

"With the rain pouring down like this, the folks back home, especially Granny, must be worried," Xu Mumu said as she munched on a roasted bun, talking about matters at home.

"Of course they’d worry. With this rain, the mountains can be unpredictable and dangerous," Yin Yang took a bite of his bun. Along their journey, they had encountered wolves and snakes, and there were likely more lurking in the mountains. The place was indeed perilous.

Xu Mumu shrugged, planning to have a bit more fun on the mountain before heading back. It wasn’t as entertaining at home, whereas the mountain had its charms.

"How should we deal with these?" Watching Xu Mumu’s captured prey, some of which were still alive, Yin Yang inquired after finishing his bun.

"Once the rain gets heavier, I’ll take care of them and grill them for storage. That way, we can eat them leisurely," Xu Mumu thought for a moment and suggested. The weather was too humid for the meat to keep for long, but luckily, her appetite was big. Combined, she and Yin Yang could finish them in a little over a day.

"Sounds good," Yin Yang nodded. This means when the rain was done and they set off again, they’d save a lot of time.

After munching on two buns, Xu Mumu left the remaining four or five buns packed, saving them for dinner.

At this moment, the thunder grew louder and more frequent, accompanied by increasing rainfall. Xu Mumu efficiently began to prepare the food, while Yin Yang took care of roasting the meat.
