70s Delicate Girl: A Guide to Being a Rich Woman
Chapter 467: Knitting Sweaters
Using toys to keep her little brother entertained, Xu Mumu was relieved and decided not to go out since the afternoon sunlight was nice. Besides playing with her little brother, she followed Madam Chen to learn knitting.
The task of teaching Xu Minglei fell to Yin Yang.
High school knowledge points were quite simple for Yin Yang, and he explained them in such a humorous and engaging way that even Xu Mumu found it interesting.
No one really knows what Xu Minglei was thinking, but he was determined to learn high school knowledge.
He heard somewhere that high school knowledge points are challenging, and worried that he might struggle in high school, he was already studying from Xu Mumu’s high school textbooks.
Making clothes was something Xu Mumu felt too lazy to learn, but knitting sweaters seemed simple enough. She learned the most basic stitch from Madam Chen quickly and was quite satisfied.
Xu Mumu had already decided that the first sweater she would knit would be for Yin Yang. The first one might be a bit ugly, but since it was meant for winter, no one would see it as it wouldn’t be worn outside.
Compared to Xu Mumu’s clumsy knitting, Madam Chen’s speed was much faster, not only quick but she even knitted a red flower on her sweater. The flower wasn’t particularly pretty, but it made the plain sweater look nicer.
Looking at what she was knitting, Xu Mumu found it a bit messy since she couldn’t quite control the tension, and she felt highly dissatisfied.
"No worries, take your time. Once you get the hang of the tension, you can undo it and start over." Madam Chen said calmly, as this yarn could be unraveled and reused perfectly for practice.
If she were using fabric for practice, Madam Chen might feel too worried since any damage would be hard to repair, and even if repaired, it wouldn’t be like new.
Xu Mumu looked at the needle and yarn she held, exerting a lot of force wasn’t a problem for her, but this sort of delicate craft was a bit challenging.
Luckily, having handled delicate things in the lab, she would get used to it—although it needed some time, it wasn’t all that hard.
"Not bad, you picked it up quickly, much easier than when I taught your aunt." Madam Chen said with a smile.
"These are too ugly; I’ll unravel them and start anew." Xu Mumu looked at her creation, the first section was particularly unbearable to her eyes, so she decisively unraveled it all to knit again.
Madam Chen nodded; the initial part indeed didn’t look good, but it had improved now.
Yin Yang was silently observing Xu Mumu, "Mumu, you’ve got skillful hands; you learned knitting so quickly."
"I just learned the simplest one." Xu Mumu smiled, planning to learn more stitches from Madam Chen, knitting whenever she had some free time.
Throughout the afternoon, Xu Mumu knitted an ugly little bag and gave it to her little brother to hold his snacks.
The little guy didn’t care if it was pretty, as he happily carried it around, the bag much larger than his clothes pockets, holding quite a lot of goodies.
Seeing the little munchkin so happy, Xu Mumu smiled contentedly.
In the evening, Xu Mumu carried a bundle of yarn next door, while Yin Yang was reading, Xu Mumu sat beside him and started knitting with the yarn.
Xu Mumu measured Yin Yang’s body with a soft tape, noted down his measurements, and began knitting.
"Are you knitting for me?" Yin Yang asked, somewhat surprised, looking at Xu Mumu.
"Yeah, I’m practicing on yours before knitting for Grandpa and the rest." Xu Mumu replied with a smile.
"No problem, you can practice on me as much as you like." Yin Yang said quite happily, just thinking about wearing a sweater knitted by his wife made him excited. When they return to the Imperial City, he would surely brag to Huo Qingze about it; though the weather wasn’t suitable for it now, he would wear it out come winter.
"Aren’t you afraid I’ll knit something ugly for you?" Xu Mumu asked with a laugh.
"Not afraid, I trust you, even if it’s ugly, I’d still like it." Yin Yang replied sincerely.
She snorted twice, satisfied with his answer.
Xu Mumu focused even more on her knitting; with Yin Yang looking so good, wearing an ugly sweater out was not an option, she had to ensure the sweater at least looked presentable.
Yin Yang didn’t know Xu Mumu was determined to make his sweater look better; he was just pleased because his wife’s first knitted piece was for him.
After knitting for over an hour, she hadn’t finished even a palm’s length, feeling a bit frustrated compared to Madam Chen’s pace of completing a sweater in two days—who knows when hers would be done.
"Alright, stop knitting for now, take it slow; there’s no rush to wear it now anyway." Yin Yang said gently.
"Mm." Xu Mumu nodded, her eyes feeling a bit strained from staring at the sweater, it was time to rest.
"Let’s go back to our hometown in a couple of days, we need to have a celebratory feast with the village. I also want to take a stroll into the deep mountains." Xu Mumu said, nestled in Yin Yang’s embrace, sharing her plans. She had always wanted to explore the deep mountains but never had the chance.
"Sure, whatever you want, I’ll have Yun Hong prepare some survival gear for the wild tomorrow." Yin Yang smiled helplessly, understanding his wife was looking for an outlet for her energy by planning a trip to the deep mountains.
"Good." Xu Mumu agreed, knowing her strength could easily manage extra gear.
The next day after Xu Mumu got up, the people at home hadn’t left yet, and she talked to them about the plans for a hometown feast.
Li Caixia and the others had no objections, welcoming the idea. During the festival, their daughter got married with only a few people present, now they could host a village feast back home, and the thought of showing off a bit was exciting.
"Hosting another feast will be costly, inviting the whole village for a meal is quite wasteful." Madam Chen said, concerned about money despite them not lacking it.
"Don’t worry about the money, Grandma. We’ve been prepared for this long ago, during the wedding in the Imperial City, Mumu’s grandpa and aunt didn’t come, so now’s the time to make it lively." Money was no concern for Yin Yang; arranging them was naturally to make Xu Mumu happy.
Everyone knew about Yin Yang’s generosity, and Li Caixia decisively concluded, "Yin Yang is right; during Mumu’s wedding, my dad’s brothers and elder sister couldn’t attend, and here her aunts couldn’t come either. So now, invite them all. They contributed to Mumu’s trousseau back then."
"Okay, okay, do what you want, though none of you find it troublesome, it’s like you’ve got money burning a hole in your pocket." Madam Chen said helplessly. How wealthy Yin Yang was, they didn’t really know, though Xu Mumu surely had a clearer idea.
